No.1 Railway Mileposts

Recently re-published as a second, revised edition, this book acts as a recognition aid to the myriad styles of mileage markers. Over 500 examples are illustrated, many with principal dimensions.

Price £5.00 plus £1.20 P&P

No.2 LNER Seatbacks

The London and North Eastern Railway developed a standard form of cast iron or enamel station nameplates which adorned the top back rails of platform seats. By no means all stations were treated in this way, so this book lists all possible stations on the LNER system, and records those seatback plates known to exist. This handbook is sold with an up-to-date supplementary sheet which lists those plates identified since original publication.

Price £5.00 plus £1.20 P&P

No.3 Cast Iron Railway Trespass Notices

A complete listing of all known (and possibly not all of them surviving) cast iron trespass notices which were once so common a sight up and down the British Isles. More than 260 examples are illustrated, so this is a useful tool in identifying untitled notices.

Currently out of print

No.4 Railway Platform Lamps

Another in our series of ‘Recognition Guides’, this work concentrates on the tops or chimneys of platform lamp cases of both post-top and wall mounted varieties. The chimney profile can often be the main identifying feature on an otherwise anonymous lamp, as any station name label or tablet cannot necessarily be relied upon to identify a station of origin. 177 lamps are illustrated.

No.5 Railway Gate, Occupation Crossing and Beware of Trains Notices

An illustrated study of railway notices which protected occupation and footpath crossings, and other points where members of the public were exposed to the potential dangers of operating railways. More than 230 illustrations of existing notices, many with sizes and additional notes.

Price £5.00 plus £1.20 P&P

Railway Undertakings of the British Isles to 1950

This lists alphabetically all railway companies which were authorised by parliament (or by light railway orders) to build and operate railway lines. Each listing provides (where known) the date of incorporation (authorisation), their route, the date of opening of their first portion, the date of its absorption, takeover etc. and the railway that took it over. Even lines which were authorised but not built, due to inability to raise sufficient finance, etc., are listed together with the appropriate dates.

Railway Undertakings runs to 128 pages and costs £10.00 £5.00 plus £1.20 P&P
